For 5 years we had the privilege of running the store at Fort de Chartres State Historic Site. As so many states have experienced these days, Illinois has seen tough economic times. Due to the current budget constraints and uncertain fiscal future of the State Historic Sites we decided not to reopen the store at the fort in 2010. The good news is we are still very much in business.
We will continue to offer the quality merchandise our customers have come to expect from us.
Fort De Chartres State Historic Site is a partially reconstructed stone fort built by France in the 18th century located in the French Colonial District of the Great American Bottom in southern Illinois. Inside the walls is the original powder magazine, the oldest standing building in Illinois. The site is administrated by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.
